This morning, the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) held a press conference where it expressed its concern over President Peter Mutharika’s hide and seek kind of conduct in handling serious matters of national interest.
While it is only 75 days before Malawians exercise their right to vote in the May 19, 2020 fresh Presidential Elections, preparations are moving at the snail’s pace because of president Mutharika’s delay to assent to the 50+1 bill passed by the National Assembly. Apart from assenting to bills which will pave the way for the appointment of new commissioners for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Malawians are also anxiously waiting for the president to act on the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament’s recommendations to fire the current commission.
